This Basque Countryside gravel tour is a spectacular green journey through the province’s quiet backcountry, linking deep forests, rivers, old railway paths and traditional villages into one flowing day on gravel.
Itinerary
A deep dive into the San Sebastian Region´s landscapes—forests, rivers, old railway paths and traditional villages—this route is all about the quiet, green side of the Basque Country. It’s perfect for riders who love long gravel stretches, gentle climbs, and that feeling of being properly connected to local culture and food.
After a quick coffee and bike check at our Cycling Hub, we roll out toward Andoain and quickly slip onto the Leitza Greenway (Vía Verde)—one of the most beautiful gravel corridors in the region. Following the old railway line, we flow through tunnels and deep forest, with the kind of steady rhythm that makes the kilometers disappear. The climb is long but friendly, never rushed, with plenty of shaded scenery to keep the legs (and mind) happy.
We arrive into Leitza for a well-earned lunch—local bar or restaurant vibes, simple and satisfying. Then it’s time to point the bikes back toward Gipuzkoa: a scenic descent via Berastegi toward Tolosa, with a sweet stop at Eceiza for traditional Basque pastries. From there, we glide along the bidegorri through Anoeta—flat, smooth, and scenic—before deciding whether to add an optional climb up to Alkiza for extra views and a little bonus challenge.
We close the day the best way possible: a final lunch / cider experience at a Cider House, (Sagardotegia), because here, the ride is never just about the ride.

"We spent a fun and informative day with Andoni. He was an excellent tour guide showing us the sights, while sharing his vast knowledge of the places we visited and their customs. We enjoyed visiting the local market and having lunch at a special restaurant selected by Andoni….a spot we would never have found on our own."BritEngland
"We came to the Spain for 8 days, 6 of them in the Basque Country. Andoni was particularly important to making this such a great trip because of his knowledge, enthusiasm, and he went out of his way to please us. I highly recommend this small and very personal type of travel service."EliUSA
