On the 20th anniversary of its creation and turned into the symbol of the new Bilbao, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao represents one of the most ambitious cultural projects of the century.
Itinerary
This Bilbao and Getaria day trip from San Sebastian is a relaxed, private journey designed to show you two very different sides of the Basque Country, always at your own pace and with a local guide by your side.
After an easy one-hour drive from San Sebastian, we arrive at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the cultural heart of the city. Built on a 32,500-square-meter site along the Nervión River, the museum is an extraordinary combination of flowing shapes, limestone blocks, and titanium curves that transform with the light. Inside, the permanent collection features key works by some of the most influential artists of the late 20th century, complemented by temporary exhibitions curated by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. You’ll explore the museum independently, with an audio guide included in your ticket.
Afterwards, continuing along the coast, we head to Zumaia to admire the famous flysch, one of the most striking geological formations in the world. From here, a scenic coastal drive takes us to Getaria, a small fishing village with a big reputation. Known for its grilled fish restaurants and local Txakoli wine, Getaria is also the birthplace of fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga and the first man to circumnavigate the globe, Juan Sebastián Elcano.
Finally, on our return to San Sebastian, we follow the coastal road through Zarautz, a lively seaside town with a long promenade and beach, where surfing in the Basque Country first took hold in the 1960s. This private day trip from San Sebastian blends art, coastal landscapes, and local life into a smooth, enriching experience.

"We spent a fun and informative day with Andoni. He was an excellent tour guide showing us the sights, while sharing his vast knowledge of the places we visited and their customs. We enjoyed visiting the local market and having lunch at a special restaurant selected by Andoni….a spot we would never have found on our own."BritEngland
"We came to the Spain for 8 days, 6 of them in the Basque Country. Andoni was particularly important to making this such a great trip because of his knowledge, enthusiasm, and he went out of his way to please us. I highly recommend this small and very personal type of travel service."EliUSA
